Enter in the total amount of your payment to the roommate, and then check the box next to the roommate's user name. Do not check the box next to your name; think of the check boxes as being who benefits from each charge.
How Do I Record A Payment From One of My Housemates to Me?
Your housemate, who made the payment, should record it, as described in the question above. Each user can enter in only transactions that are "in his favor", i.e., decrease the amount he is owed. You cannot enter in that your roommate paid for something, he has to enter that in.
The reason for this is to force everyone to do their own share of the accounting, so that one person does not end up doing all the bill-entry work. Only you can enter the items that will credit you; if you don't put your payments into SlackerFactor, you will look like a bigger slacker than you really are.
What If A Bill Is Not Shared Evenly?
Sometimes people share a cost such that one person pays 1/2 of the cost and two other people each pay 1/4 of the cost. SlackerFactor does not currently have a way to enter in a cost that is not shared equally, but you can handle a cost that is due to just one person, by entering it like a payment to that person.
Thus, you could manually calculate how much 1/2 and 1/4 of that particular cost is, and enter it in as a series of one-person charges.
The ability to share costs non-evenly is one of the features we are planning to add. If you would use this feature, please email us and we will give it a higher priority.
